Our History

1964

For six months, a young man went door-to-door in the communities of northern Columbus inviting people to a new church. That man was Bob Swanger and the church became Christ the King Lutheran Church located on E. Dublin-Granville Road, the present site of Knights Inn.

1986

Through the "Together We Grow" capital stewardship program, Christ the King purchased 113 acres of land located at 8600 Worthington Road in southern Delaware County and built a new auditorium and school.

1989

Controversy began in certain parts of the Lutheran Church and the congregation voted to separate and officially become Christ the King Church.

1990

NP Limited Corporation approached CTK about purchasing their property and relocating the church to new land to make room for an interchange off Interstate 71, now known as Polaris Parkway. CTK relocated to 120 acres and built a new multi-purpose building, a new school and a youth building.

1991

Founding pastor, Bob Swanger was sent out as an apostle and Rey Dempsey became the new Senior Pastor.

2002

Senior Pastor Rey Dempsey retired after 14 years of leadership. Bennett Smith became the new Senior Pastor. Bennett had been the Youth Pastor for 10 years and an Assistant Pastor for 2 years.

2005

Christ the King Polaris becomes simply - The Church at Polaris.
